How to Grow

Grow, garden, grow:
Grow fat with ripe tomatoes,
Grow rich with juicy onions,
Grow wild with beans and squash.

Whisper tall grass:
Send word of skulking autumn,
Before your spears grow brittle,
Before the world grows cold.

Old oak and cedar:
Draw close in old growth synods,
Be sanctum to the mosses,
Ephemerals and bugs.

Soon night will fall,
If dawn’s to come tomorrow
We’ll need you more than ever
